Michael
An Echo of an X-Ray

A memory of terror
Or years of torture?

What life has given
We take with no regard

Bound, gagged, and blind
We, as prisoners, hope for hope's sake

Blood running cold
Hearts failing to rise

A death is no crime
But this horrible existence is its own punishment

Another long day
with nothing but a haiku
to show for it all.

short crust no bake pie
deviled eggs on a platter

You know that feeling
when you sit down
in a theater
the lights dimming
previews playing
and you are anticipating
the warm and fuzzy ending
before the opening credits
begin to roll?

And then there's that companion feeling
when the ending credits start
and you are still waiting
for that warm and fuzzy feeling.

You should have known
by the actors who actually spoke the language
of the people they were portraying
and the various awards
printed and encircled
with some sort of branch
(olive?)
on the top of the poster,
that this is the type of film
that reminds us of
the "human condition,"
art speak for
"its not our job to be happy."

Missed a day again.
too busy working
to be introspective,
but maybe tomorrow
I'll be ready to look
from a new perspective.

Why, skinny jeans, why,
Did I cave in and get you?
I'm not a hipster.
